Short visit to Sungei Buloh Wetland
Place : Sungei Buloh Wetland When : 8th Feb 2009 I have always miss going to Sungei Buloh Wetland. But despite asking around many times who's interested to visit this place, the answer is still the same; "hmmm, don't want". So i have decided to visit it alone. Work finished at 3pm. Changing to my outing attire, a friend asked where am i going? Sungei Buloh is my reply. To my surprised, my friend said " If you don't mind, can i tag along?". Ohh...not that im happy that i have a companion at the last minute, but im in deep thoughts and wonders...why would she who have no interest in nature wanna tag along? Nevertheless, im okay with any friends tagging along with me to anywhere. So, i said yes. The wait for the bus to bring us to the wetland lasted for 30 minutes. The weather was sunny, but as we are approaching the destination, dark clouds gloom over the sky. Issit going to rain soon? I don't care. Rain or shine, I will still walk in the reserve. keke The Bus Service 925 drop us at the entrance of the wetland. When we reached there, it was already 1650hrs. Admission to the wetland on Sunday is S$1. For your info, Bus Service 925 will only drop you to the wetland entrance on a Sunday and Public Holidays. On any other day, you have to walk 15minutes from the bus stop near Kranji Reservoir Carpark. While in the reserve, here's the Do's and the Don'ts
Mangrove Broadwalk is my fav bcos i love to see mudskipper.
Reserve closes at 1900hrs. The last admission ticket will be sold at 1800hrs. Here's a schedules of the bus service 925 from the reserve. Don't ever miss the bus bcos the walk is a long walk out. Labels: local, mangrove, rambling, sungei buloh, wetland

It is the first wetlands reserve to be gazetted in S'pore in the year 2002, and the global importance as a stop-over point for migratory birds. This is my first visit to the wetland, and i forgot to bring along my camera, but that doesn't stop me from taking pictures of some of the living things that i see here. It was low tide that day, but i can see the water keeps gushing in constantly for the high tide to be in anytime soon. There's so much mudskippers of all sizes seen on the mangroves. The mudskippers are so cute esp when it's eyes rolled up. khehehee...its like saying "watever!!". Mangroves Walking the nature trail, always got to look out for spider webs. Its all over and the spiders are so huge in size! I always almost walk thru it because I was busy admiring whats on my left/right view rather than whats in front of me. Too bad my camera phone unable to capture these spiders. I also spotted a crocodile. Try to look for it behind these trees... See the crocodile? See its head? Now, that's the tail of the crocodile. These are some of the living things that i came across during the nature walk : ![]() Did u see anything in the above picture? It camouflage well with its surroundings. Spotted so many of this (above) during the walk. It keeps crossing across the path that we walked. But it disappear as quickly as it appears. Due to its inaccessibility during weekdays, i've only been here once to date. Awww...I missed Sungei Buloh Wetland!! Anyone interested to go? E-mail me! What to bring on your visit :

Chek Jawa Wetland, Pulau Ubin
Place : Chek Jawa Wetland Where : Pulau Ubin When : 15th March-08 Bumboat ride fm Changi Ferry Terminal cost S$2.00 one-way (wef 18th Apr-08 bumboat priced at S$2.50 one way), with an additional $2 if u want to bring ur own bicycle there. U can take SBS service 2, 29, 59, 109 and drop at Changi Village Bus Terminal. Then walk over to the ferry terminal. Walking distance less than 3mins. Boat will leave only when there's 12 passengers. If u make a trip to Ubin on a weekday u may have to wait a lil longer comparing to the weekends or PH because making up to 12 passengers during the weekends is zippy. I was lucky that that day is a beautiful day with the sun shining and the sky amazingly fascinating. Renting a bike in Ubin is the cheapest that I have come across. Its as low as $2 for a one day rent!!!! If u rent a double seat, it'll cost u $18. Few bike shops on the island, all rental price are the same. The difference is the condition of the bike that u are renting. ![]() Taken from ubin jetty ![]() Bike rental shop This is not my first time discovering Ubin. I have walked on foot, ride a bicycle and even overnite camping in Ubin. But this is my first time going to Chek Jawa Wetland. There is a guided tour to the wetland, but that is avail during the lowest tide on a weekend because when the tide is at its lowest, you can see more marine life. I have always keep a look out for the guided tour but missed it most of the time cos of work commitment, But anyways, here i am today discovering another part of Ubin, unguided. From the bike rental shop to the wetland (according to that charming guy *wink*wink* at that bike rental shop), it'll take me 30mins to get there. But alas! it took me 1hr to get there. I didnt get lost along the way and neither do i stop for any short break, but i have to admit that i did say smtg along the way which i shouldnt have done so (i know i shudn't say, but dont know why i said what i said), and so i got delayed in reaching the wetland. U cannot bring in your bike into the wetland. Bicycles and vehicles will have to be parked at designated lots near Punai Hut, situated at the entrance of the wetland. Also, there's a mobile stall that sells drink to quench your thirst. Wetland opens fm 8.30am to 6.00pm. ![]() Chek Jawa Map U can chose where u wana visit first at the wetland. From the visitor centre, u can chose to go thru the Coastal Loop (600m) or the Mangrove Loop (500m) broadwalk. There's platforms, floating pontoon and shelters. I must say that im so so excited and happy to have finally reached and see for myself what Chek Jawa has. The seven storey (20meters) high viewing tower called the Jejawi Tower, officially opened in July 2007 proved to be a breath-taking as it gives a good bird eye view of the wetland. ![]() Floating pontoon ![]() Broadwalk towards Jejawi Tower ![]() 20meters high Jejawi Tower Other info : There are four Chinese restaurants and one Muslim stall. These are seen when u entered the island from the jetty. And there's another restaurant at the MCC Ubin Resort. These are the only eating places in Ubin. So if u plan to wander far, pack ur own food. My suggest, pack food from Changi Village before u check in to ride on the bumboat at the Changi Ferry Terminal. Labels: Chek Jawa, local, mangrove, ubin, wetland
