Chek Jawa Wetland, Pulau Ubin
Place : Chek Jawa Wetland
Where : Pulau Ubin
When : 15th March-08

Bumboat ride fm Changi Ferry Terminal cost S$2.00 one-way (wef 18th Apr-08 bumboat priced at S$2.50 one way), with an additional $2 if u want to bring ur own bicycle there. U can take SBS service 2, 29, 59, 109 and drop at Changi Village Bus Terminal. Then walk over to the ferry terminal. Walking distance less than 3mins.

Boat will leave only when there's 12 passengers. If u make a trip to Ubin on a weekday u may have to wait a lil longer comparing to the weekends or PH because making up to 12 passengers during the weekends is zippy.

I was lucky that that day is a beautiful day with the sun shining and the sky amazingly fascinating. Renting a bike in Ubin is the cheapest that I have come across. Its as low as $2 for a one day rent!!!! If u rent a double seat, it'll cost u $18. Few bike shops on the island, all rental price are the same. The difference is the condition of the bike that u are renting.

This is not my first time discovering Ubin. I have walked on foot, ride a bicycle and even overnite camping in Ubin. But this is my first time going to Chek Jawa Wetland. There is a guided tour to the wetland, but that is avail during the lowest tide on a weekend because when the tide is at its lowest, you can see more marine life.

I have always keep a look out for the guided tour but missed it most of the time cos of work commitment, But anyways, here i am today discovering another part of Ubin, unguided.

From the bike rental shop to the wetland (according to that charming guy *wink*wink* at that bike rental shop), it'll take me 30mins to get there. But alas! it took me 1hr to get there. I didnt get lost along the way and neither do i stop for any short break, but i have to admit that i did say smtg along the way which i shouldnt have done so (i know i shudn't say, but dont know why i said what i said), and so i got delayed in reaching the wetland.

U cannot bring in your bike into the wetland. Bicycles and vehicles will have to be parked at designated lots near Punai Hut, situated at the entrance of the wetland. Also, there's a mobile stall that sells drink to quench your thirst. Wetland opens fm 8.30am to 6.00pm.

U can chose where u wana visit first at the wetland. From the visitor centre, u can chose to go thru the Coastal Loop (600m) or the Mangrove Loop (500m) broadwalk. There's platforms, floating pontoon and shelters. I must say that im so so excited and happy to have finally reached and see for myself what Chek Jawa has. The seven storey (20meters) high viewing tower called the Jejawi Tower, officially opened in July 2007 proved to be a breath-taking as it gives a good bird eye view of the wetland.

Other info :
There are four Chinese restaurants and one Muslim stall. These are seen when u entered the island from the jetty. And there's another restaurant at the MCC Ubin Resort. These are the only eating places in Ubin. So if u plan to wander far, pack ur own food. My suggest, pack food from Changi Village before u check in to ride on the bumboat at the Changi Ferry Terminal.
