Geylang Serai Hari Raya 2008

Place : Geylang Serai
When : 1st Sept till 30th Sept 2008

In Spore, dedicated area will be lit up with decorative lights during the festive seasons. Example, for the Muslim celebrating Hari Raya, Geylang Serai will have its road lit up. For the Indian celebrating Deepavali, Little India in Serangoon will have its road lit up. And for Christmas, we have the Orchard Road lit up.

For those of my friends who is staying out of Spore and those who missed the chance to drop by Geylang Serai this year...here's some snapshot of whats going on in Geylang Serai Hari Raya lights up.

Flashing/blinking lights to decorate internal/external of the house during Ramadhan and first few weeks of Syawal

Baju kurung for the ladies

Baju melayu for the guys

Cookies, biskuits, layered cakes, crackers and chips are a must in all household to be served to guest doing house-visiting

Shoes! Sandals! And not forgetting capal! Capal are usually worn by the guys

One things that I have always love and admire the Malays community is the close bonding of family ties. Despite siblings getting married and have their own family to tend to, but when it comes to close bonding, the Malays community has never fail to have it. Look at the picture below... This family took a huge lorry to go Hari Raya shopping together!

To all my Muslim friends, wishing you guys Selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri. Mohon Maaf Zahir dan Batin. Don't drink too much frizzy drinks and don't eat too much during house visiting! For those who gonna balik kampung...drive safely.
