Parangtritis Beach - Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Where : Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia Place : Parangtritis Beach When : Mid Aug 2008 All beaches are great for strolling, sun bathing and sunrise/sunset gazing. But Parangtritis Beach in Yogyakarta has a unique tale of its own. As what I heard from my tour guide, it was told that no one should swim far away into the deep water because you will never come back onshore. And this is not just to scare those kids, but it happened before. The day before my visit to Parangtritis Beach, my tour guide Mbak Lingga told us not to wear green clothing. It is said that any person wearing clothing coloured green will be lured into the sea by the Queen and to their fate - a superstition firmly entrenched in the minds of all Javanese; even as far North as Jakarta. The Queen of the South Seas - Kanjeng Ratu Kidul together with her confident Nyai Loro Kidul reign over the Southern seas and all within it. Read this article for the unique tale of the Queen of the South Seas : Tale of The Queen of The South Seas Started from Parangkusumo Beach, we walked on the sandy beach. The sand that I walked on are lighter greyish in color compared to the beach that I usually walked on before. The strong wind blowing from the Indian Ocean makes my eyes difficult to open bcos the sand keeps getting into my eyes. Kite flying Local food by the shore Take a ride on this for a price of 20,000 Rupiah and enjoy the sea breeze blowing in your face. To the far end of the beach, its a hilly place and I saw some houses along the hillside. I was told by my tour guide that those are unoccupied after the tsunami ruin it. It used to be a holiday chalets, and the owner is still trying to work out the repair works. My driver, Mas Idin suggested that we seek better view of Parangtritis Beach. Feeling that nothing could be more better than to see what Ive seen before by walking the whole stretch of the beach, I asked "Better view than this? Where?" and Mas Idin pointed towards the hilly area. Ohh....I love this beach and will surely visit it again on my next visit to Jogja. Labels: beach, indonesia, overseas, sun
