"Orbs" captured at Changi Beach
It has been a culture in my family to camp at Changi Beach at least once a year. Mostly it'll be in June or December or both months. We would usually camp for few nights. The longest that ive recorded is 5D4N! And after that when i came back to work, my colleagues couldnt recognised me cos im charred! kheheeee... This year, my first visit is 23rd-May. Stayed for 3D2N cos the weather is too hot and moreover there's not much campers as ive usually observed for all the years that i came here. This probably due to the extremely hot weather. Okie...for the many years that i came here starting from when im still young as young as in primary sch till now..ive camped with my family, aunts, uncles, grandma, cousins. BUT this time its a lil different, there's only me and my other siblings AND I bring along my camera. In the past, moments of leisure are taken by the normal camera and camera phone, but this time i decided to bring my digi cam. One photo that i took, captured what some ppl would call "orbs". According to scientists its a dust particle that catches light. But some say its a ghost. I leave for u to say for urself what are those "bubbles" captured. Btw, this is taken at 1915hrs. My second shot of the same location after few seconds, shows an absence of those bubbles. Click here for related link Wikipedia Orbs - Paranormal See those bubbles? Taken at 1915hrs See any bubble? Self marinated BBQ sauce If u wanna do camping on a weekday, u need to have a permit. No permit is required for a weekends and PHs camping. Park rangers will be doing his rounding to ensure that valid permit are given out to the set up tents. For issual of permits, its as easy as pitching up ur tent and the park rangers will approach u to scan ur IC. Once scanning is completed, a slip will be issued to u, and u need to attached it to ur tent. Scanning of IC done on daily basis. During school holiday period, u can see that the beach is so packed with campers and it feels like there's party going around on most parts of the beach. But these are seen mostly on area where the BBQ pits are. Towards the end of the beach, u can see another "world" of campers. These are those of private and quiet campers who pitch their tent for more privacy and quieter atmosphere. But still enjoying the sounds of waves, the smell of sea and the amazing sunset and sunrise. Sunset Sunrise Try to come early during school hols (esp weekends camping) i.e before evening 5pm to get a very good spot if u wish to pitch a tent cos during sch hols, there's too many campers. U'll end up getting spot too far away from the toilet if u're late. There's only one toilet in the park. Beside urinal purposes, there's shower facilities inside the toilet as well as outside the toilet. There's also a small shop in front of the toilet; selling drinks, titbits, soap, shampoo and etc. Toilet usage is free of charge. If u and ur family planned to camp for a few days and wants more than just what Changi Beach could offer, u can visit Pulau Ubin (the island just opposite Changi Beach) during the day, and return back to ur tent in the evening. But dont forget to bring all ur valuables. Labels: BBQ, beach, camping, changi, local, sun

Chek Jawa Wetland, Pulau Ubin
Place : Chek Jawa Wetland Where : Pulau Ubin When : 15th March-08 Bumboat ride fm Changi Ferry Terminal cost S$2.00 one-way (wef 18th Apr-08 bumboat priced at S$2.50 one way), with an additional $2 if u want to bring ur own bicycle there. U can take SBS service 2, 29, 59, 109 and drop at Changi Village Bus Terminal. Then walk over to the ferry terminal. Walking distance less than 3mins. Boat will leave only when there's 12 passengers. If u make a trip to Ubin on a weekday u may have to wait a lil longer comparing to the weekends or PH because making up to 12 passengers during the weekends is zippy. I was lucky that that day is a beautiful day with the sun shining and the sky amazingly fascinating. Renting a bike in Ubin is the cheapest that I have come across. Its as low as $2 for a one day rent!!!! If u rent a double seat, it'll cost u $18. Few bike shops on the island, all rental price are the same. The difference is the condition of the bike that u are renting. Taken from ubin jetty Bike rental shop This is not my first time discovering Ubin. I have walked on foot, ride a bicycle and even overnite camping in Ubin. But this is my first time going to Chek Jawa Wetland. There is a guided tour to the wetland, but that is avail during the lowest tide on a weekend because when the tide is at its lowest, you can see more marine life. I have always keep a look out for the guided tour but missed it most of the time cos of work commitment, But anyways, here i am today discovering another part of Ubin, unguided. From the bike rental shop to the wetland (according to that charming guy *wink*wink* at that bike rental shop), it'll take me 30mins to get there. But alas! it took me 1hr to get there. I didnt get lost along the way and neither do i stop for any short break, but i have to admit that i did say smtg along the way which i shouldnt have done so (i know i shudn't say, but dont know why i said what i said), and so i got delayed in reaching the wetland. U cannot bring in your bike into the wetland. Bicycles and vehicles will have to be parked at designated lots near Punai Hut, situated at the entrance of the wetland. Also, there's a mobile stall that sells drink to quench your thirst. Wetland opens fm 8.30am to 6.00pm. Chek Jawa Map U can chose where u wana visit first at the wetland. From the visitor centre, u can chose to go thru the Coastal Loop (600m) or the Mangrove Loop (500m) broadwalk. There's platforms, floating pontoon and shelters. I must say that im so so excited and happy to have finally reached and see for myself what Chek Jawa has. The seven storey (20meters) high viewing tower called the Jejawi Tower, officially opened in July 2007 proved to be a breath-taking as it gives a good bird eye view of the wetland. Floating pontoon Broadwalk towards Jejawi Tower 20meters high Jejawi Tower Other info : There are four Chinese restaurants and one Muslim stall. These are seen when u entered the island from the jetty. And there's another restaurant at the MCC Ubin Resort. These are the only eating places in Ubin. So if u plan to wander far, pack ur own food. My suggest, pack food from Changi Village before u check in to ride on the bumboat at the Changi Ferry Terminal. Labels: Chek Jawa, local, mangrove, ubin, wetland
