A year older...
Hope this day is as special as you are. Count your life by smiles, not tears. Count your age by friends, not years. Be glad you were born, because you brighten someone's life and fill it with joy. May the years continue to be good to you. Happy Birthday! You're not getting older, you're getting better. May this year bring with it all the success and fulfillment your heart desires. My BIG THANKIU goes to all birthday wishers. May you all be blessed. Labels: hmmm

Coban Rondo Waterfall - Malang, East Java Indonesia
Where : Malang, East Java Indonesia Place : Coban Rondo Waterfall When : Mid Aug 2008 This waterwall has an interesting legend to be told. It is said that the name Coban Rondo Waterfall derived from a newly married couple. The bride was Dewi Anjarwati from Gunung Kawi (Mount Kawi), and she married Raden Baron Kusumo from Gunung Anjasmoro (Mount Anjasmoro). After they got married for 36 days (in Javanese: selapan), Anjarwati asked her husband to go together to Mount Anjasmoro. However, Anjarwati's parents forbade them to go because they were newly wedded couple for only 36 days. The two of them insisted to go anyway. While on the way, both of them were startled by the presence of Joko Lelono, a man from nowhere. It seemed that Joko Lelono was attracted to the beauty of Dewi Anjarwati, and he tried to take her away from Raden Baron Kusumo. Fight between Joko Lelono and Raden Baron Kusuma was unavoidable. Raden Baron Kusumo asked punokawan who accompanied him (Petruk, Gareng, Semar, Bagong) to hide Anjarwati, and then to bring her to a place with a waterfall (in Javanese: coban). The fight was very fierce, and both of the men were killed. Therefore, Anjarwati became a widow (in Javanese: rondo). Since then, the waterfall (coban) where Anjarwati waited for her husband has been known as Coban Rondo. It is said that the huge stone under the waterfall was the place where Anjarwati used to sit to weep her fate. I was told by my tour guide(don't know true or not) that anyone who took a bathe or splash water from this waterfall onto her face, will look younger. So, do you think I soak myself in the chilled water or splash water on my face when I was here? *wink*wink*

Borobudur Temple - Magelang, Central Java Indonesia
Where : Magelang, Central Java Indonesia Place : Borobudur Temple When : Mid Aug 2008 I didn't believe that one day i will step my feet on Borobudur Temple, and here i was walking up the stairs with the rest of the visitors on a weekend. It was a weekend when i was there, and Oh My! there were so many people that you could hardly take a pic of a location without having someone in your snapshot. Take a look at how many visitors that day... Isn't that alot???! Walking towards the temple, turn to ur right and you can see mountain. But the most fasinating about that mountain is that u can see an image of a person lying down. Spot the eye and the nose? Here's a close up of it. I'm not a buddhist and so I do not really understand what my tour guide was telling me about the pilgrimage performing the rites here. But anyway, Im writing to what is my understanding of Borobudur from her explanation. The proper way of entering Borobudur Temple is from the East, and walking clockwise as you reach each level of the temple. There are nine levels. The first six terraces are filled with richly decorated relief panels in which the sculptors have carved a textbook of Buddhist doctrines. The upper platform features seventy-two small stupas surrounding one large central stupa. Each containing a statue of the Buddha (these statues are usually headless; relic hunters stole many of the heads, others are in museums). Crowning the entire structure is a great central stupa. Representing Nirvana, it is empty. See some of the headless statues above? Labels: historical, indonesia, indonesia culture, overseas

Tamansari (Water castle) - Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Where : Yogyakarta, Indonesia Place : Tamansari (Water castle) When : Mid Aug 2008 Entrance to TamanSari (Water castle) Taman Sari which means beautiful garden also known as water castle. It was built in 1758 by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I. The castle once has a place for relaxation and entertainment as well as a unique defense system. It was badly damaged due to an eartquake in 1867. When visiting Taman Sari, avoid wearing shorts or mini-skirts. Your pants or skirts should be long enough to cover your knees. This conveys the message that you understand the local customs. And the locals will also respect you more. As I understand from my tour guide this place was once a most secret part of Kraton as it formed as pleasure park of pools and waterways planted with hundreds of flowering trees. The Sultan and his concubines would relax here and from the tower overlooking the female bathing pools, the Sultan would choose his companion for the evening. This is the tree where the ladies that came to the castle beautify themselves. The fruit from this tree works like a nail polish. Thats the tower which the Sultan would be sitting in and watch the girls bathing in the swimming pool. He would then select which girl to be his companion. This is taken from the tower where the Sultan could watch the girls. I loved this part of the castle. The swimming pool is so beautiful. And I believe this castle is even more beautiful before the earthquake. This is the Sultan private pool which is located behind the viewing tower. This is the Sultan meditation chamber, located in the viewing tower. The water which flows within Taman Sari was not only to beautify the castle, but it also functioned as a secret weapon for avoiding dangers. Whenever the enemies attacked, Sultan and his family would flee away through the underground passage. When all Sultan’s family was already in a safe place, the Watergate would be opened and the water would overflow the passages, so that enemy would be sunk. Entrance to the underground passage (above). Stairways leading to different part of the underground passage.
